Make Your Furnace Safe!
The first day of autumn arrived last week and it possibly was over 100 degrees that day! Hard to believe that winter will ever get here, but it will and there are some of us that will really enjoy the cooler temperatures, myself included. It is difficult to get our mind set wrapped around getting our heaters checked, but it is important. Safety issues are always the top reason. Your family deserves to be safe and warm. Every year the news carries sad stories about carbon monoxide poisoning or a house fire caused from faulty furnace operation. If that in itself isn't incentive enough than add on the monetary costs of losing coverage on your equipment's ten year parts and labor agreement. If you purchased Extended Warranty coverage on new equipment through any manufacturer, they require that seasonal maintenance be done in order for it to remain valid. A good way to explain it is to compare it to a new car warranty. You may have 50,000 miles or five year warranty but you have to have regular oil changes and annual maintenance done in order to keep that warranty valid. I had a customer call the other other day to tell me he had paid a lower price for a "check-out" only to discover it was a "visual inspection". If he wanted any of the recommended cleaning and maintenance it was all extra. Our parents cliche of "you get what you pay for" stays true. Schedule your furnace check before the first cold front and consider saving extra money with a maintenance agreement. While I've got you thinking about it, don't forget to replace those batteries in your smoke detectors. This is a great time of the year to do that as well.
